California Brown Turkey
We’ve never been big fans of the California Brown Turkey family of figs, but they are grown widely for commercial production. So, we thought we’d try some CBT’s purchased from the grocery store.
California Brown Turkey Fig Variety Features
Though widely grown for commercial purposes because of its high production and ability to hold up to transport, CBT is a lackluster variety for the typical home fig orchard:
- The flavor is insipid compared to many other varieties
- Proclivity to an open ostiole
- Does not handle rain well
- Though a common fig type, improved quality requires caprification
